N.S.W. CYCLONE
FURY OF WIND AND RAIN SYDNEY HOSPITAL UNROOFED FERRIES DISORGANISED By Cable.—Press Association.—copyright SYDNEY, To-day. The cyclonic disturbances which passed along the coast of New South Wales in a southerly direction during the week-end increased in intensity last night, and was traversing the coast in a northerly direction. The wind increased in force near midnight, and reached 64 miles an hour, accompanied by torrential rain, thunder, and lightning. Many houses and shops were unroofed, and shop windows blown in. Telegraph and electric wires are down. A cottage at Newton collapsed, and a man occupant was taken to hospital in a critical condition. Portion of the roof of the Sydney Hospital was blown off, and some patients had to be moved out of the range of the rain which was dashing in. During the past five days 11 inches of rain have fallen in Sydney. The harbour ferry services are disorganised, and the trains delayed. Warnings have been isued to shipping, and flood warnings sent to a number of towns.
On the south coast much low-lying land Is Inundated, and the gale is still raging Incessantly.—A. and N.Z.
