NORTH ISLAND TITLES PLAY AT MIRAMAR Press Association WELLINGTON, Monday. The results < * the adult championship competitions in the North Island tennis tournament at Miramar are as follows: Ladies’ Singles.—Final: Miss Arita Howe beat Mrs. W. J. Melody, 6—3, 6— A. Semi-finals, Men's Singles:—D. G. France beat N. R. C. Wilson, I—6, 6—3, 6—2; A. L. France beat E. B. W. Smyth, 6 —3, 6—o. Semi-final, Men's Doubles.—Smyth and Lampe beat Dr. Park and N. R .C. Wilson, 6—4, 6 —4. SOUTH ISLAND TOURNEY HARD COURT CHAMPIONSHIP Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. In the South Island tourney D. C. Johnston (Timaru) beat K. J. Walker in the second round of the men's singles championship, 6—4. 6—4, and Johnston beat CV Angas in the semi-final of the same event, 7—5, 6—2. Johnston overpowered his opponents by the terrific force of his accurate base-line shots, which were all taken from the rising ball. The men’s championship doubles semifinals saw Johnston and Innes-Jones (Timaru) beat Patterson and Angas, 6—l, 6—3. PAPATOETOE PLAY The annual tennis tournament of the St. George's Tennis Club was held at Papatoetoe on Easter Saturday and Easter Monday and proved a big success. The “Davis Cup,” presented by the Rev. P. C. Davis fur the club championship was won by L. T. Smytheman for the second year in succession. R. Leighton also filled the place of run-ner-up for the second year in succession. The Girls’ Championship Cup, also presented by Mr. Davis, was won by Miss J. Wakelin, with Miss E. Bnelling runner-up. The Easter Combined Doubles went to Miss W. Snelling and L. T. Smytheman, with Miss E. Snelling and D. Orr runnersrup. A social was held in the curch hall on Monday night. Mr. Davis, president of the club, presented the prizes won during the tournament, and conveyed his good wishes to the winners and wished the club prosperity in the future. CAMBRIDGE TOURNAMENT (From Our Own Cox-respondent.) CAMBRIDGE, To-day. The annual Cambridge Sub-Associa-tion Tennis Tournament was held during Easter. There were large entries and delightful weather prevailed. The gathering was a success in every way. Results are as follow: Men's Singles.—Poulgrain (Thames). Men’s Doubles.—Robinson and Darrow. Combined Doubles. —Robinson and Miss M. Armstrong. The finals of the ladies’ singles and ladies’ doubles are being played to-day . HAMILTON MATCHES PLAY IN FINALS (From Our Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, To-day. Further results of the Waikato tennis championships played to-day are: Ladies’ Handicap Doubles.—Final: Misses O’Neill and Howlett beat Misses Fletcher and Smeeton, 9—3. Men’s Handicap Singles.—Final: Potter beat Horton, 9 —7. Men’s Handicap Doubles.—Final: McKeown and Potter beat Seymour and McCracken, 11 —9. Ladies’ Championship Doubles. Final: Misses Clouston and Knight beat Misses Ramsey and Bruce, 6 —l, 6—4. Combined Handicap.—Final: McCracken and Mrs. Bainbridge beat McCar.'oll and Miss Bruce. ll—9.
