NO POCKETS
New Police Uniform trim EFFICIENCY NEW ZEALAND CLOTH (from Our Resident Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Saturday. When the people see the members of the police force in their new uniforms, which are to be issued to the men within a week, there will be little room for dq*bt as to what branch of
public authority they represent. No longer will they be taken for Salvation Army officers —as was the experience of one Wellington inspector—nor will the typical dear old soul approach them in an endeavour to engage a taxi thinking they are car-drivers. The new uniform will stamp them as policemen, and the fear of the Police Commissioner, Mr. W. B. McIlveney, that the sturdy minions of the force will be mixed with city traffic officials will be allayed. The photograph shows a specimen of the new uniform, With its silver buttons, silver badge and pocketless tunic The cloth is of the finest material and made in the Dominion, but the silver buttons and badges were imported from overseas.
