“THE ROAD TO MANDALAY” A most engrossing story of the underworld is told in “The Road to Mandalay. a Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer production starring Lon Chaney, which will commence showing at the Grand Theatre to-day. There is not a dull moment in the plot. and the background. although grotesque, is most absorbing. Chaney achieves an outstanding success as Singapore Joe, a weird character who is ugly, repulsive and yet has lovable qualities. Lois Moran, cast as the beautiful daughter of this monster. gives an appealing performance. Matt Moore is seen as a young naval officer, who has sunk to the depths of degradation, but by the aid of the heroine wins his wayback to respectability. Another fine actor in the cast is Henry B. Walthall, who plays the part of a priest with characteristic ability. . A good supporting programme will also be shown.
