WORK IN THE KITCHEN GARDEN. Onion seed should be sown thinly in drills 12 inches apart. Brown Spanish is the best variety for keeping. Straw Spanish is a larger onion, but does not keep as well as the former. Plant broad beans during April and May, thus giving an early start before the bumble bee or rust attacks them. Make sure that you have a good stock of vegetables planted for winter use. Remember how' dear they become during the colder months. Prepare your asparagus beds for planting in June. Try and procure three-year-old roots, as these come into bearing quickest. Keep the ground firm around the celery plants. Water constantly with liquid manure. Plant the following seeds in drills thinly and weed out as required:—Parsnips, beet, carrot, turnips, swede, onion, silver beet, and spinach. Sow in beds or boxes and transplant when large enough to handle, lettuce, cabbage and cauliflower. WORK IN THE FLOWER GARDEN Plant all spring flowering bulbs before it is too late. Re-sow bare patches in the lawns, 4oz. seeds is sufficient for one square yard. Superphosphate and blood and bone mixed is the best fertiliser for manuring lawns. The super acts immediately and the blood and bone sustain the good done by it. Disbud chrysanthemums to obtain larger blooms. Remember, quality, not quantity, shoulid be your policy. Sow in boxes the following flower seeds: —Cineraria, stock, nemesia. Geum, Antirrhinum, winter sweet peas. Violets are showing buds. Keep your beds thoroughly clean and manure with potash.
