THE NEW REGENT
SPECIAL EASTER BILL The special mighty Easter programme, with appropriate music a predominant feature in addition to # the sensational British film, “The Rat,’ opened at the Regent • Theatre to-day. “The Rat” stars Ivor Novello and Isabel Jeans, noted English artists, Novello having the title role. The film contains vivid scenes of the Apache quarter of Paris, wherein most of the startling action takes place. Apart from its plot, the picture, which introduces an entirely new technique to the screen, is remarkable for its great array of feminine beauty and its gorgeous riot of Paris gowns - . These will delight the hearts of all women. The musical side of the bill is one of the most noteworthy yet presented at the Regent, where music has always been given equal attention with the pictures and vaudeville. Miss Phyllis Hazell, eminent Australian contralto, sings Percy Kahn’s beautiful “Ave Maria,” with orchestral and organ accompaniment, while orchestra and organ combined play the overture, “Kamenoi Ostran” (Rubenstein). Eddie Horton at the mighty Wurlitzer gives Handel’s “Largo” and “Souvenir.” The return season of Hector St. Clair, the inimitable comedian, is sure to prove acceptable to the thousands whom he caused to* roar with laughter on his former appearance. REGENT BALLROOM The attention of patrons of the luxurious Regent Theatre is drawn to the great gala night being held this evening, also to the Easter ball on Monday, when dancing will continue until 1 a.m. At both these special nights novelties will be presented and the latest in jazz music will be played by the Ballroom Orchestra.
