THEFT OF OVERCOAT
ALFRED’S UNLUCKY THIRTEEN “When he gets drink he steals and when he steals it is usually an overcoat or a coat,” the Rev. Jasper Calder told the court Thursday when William Alfred Roycroft was brought up on a charge of stealing an overcoat valued at £ 1 10s. “He only steals when in this stupid state,” the minister added. "Have you seen this list,” asked Magistrate Hunt, holding a sheet of paper with 13 previous convictions thereon. After evidence had been heard, the accused was remanded till Saturday.
