'THE AMATEUR PORTERS’
RAILWAY STATION COMEDY LUGGAGE THAT NEARLY MISSED “The Luggage which Lagged” or “The Amateur Porters,” a comedy in three acts. Sc’ene: Auckland Railway Station. The Rotorua express just ready to leave. Time: 10.30 o’clock Thursday ing. Act 1: Enter carrier with cart and much luggage. He drops it on the station platform and decides that his work is finished. The luggage is the property of the “Abie’s Irish Rose” company, and the carrier supposes that someone will look after it. But the actors and actresses have gone on ahead by a previous train. The luggage lies in the sun. xAct II.: Enter several prospective passengers. They look at luggage and remark, “Oh, playing in Hamilton tonight!” They stroll in the sun, wondering if the luggage will be placed on the train. Enter porter: What’s this? Ltiggage for Hamilton. Bless my soul (or words to that effect), it should be on the train. Up stage the engine driver is getting busy. It is ten minutes past the usual time for the train to leave. Many passengers jostling about. Porters busy. Act 3: The bell rings to signal the departure of the train. Enter with a rush Mr. R. Fuller, several porters and the luggage, some of which promptly falls off the trolley. The train begins to move. “Give me a hand with this.” A SUN representative also enters and clutches the end of a big trunk. As the train moves out of the station porters on and off train, Mr. Fuller, and THE SUN man all shove the luggage on board. Train steams out of station, with guards dragging the luggage into place. “! ! ! ??xr??! ?! ?xx!” exclaim Mr. Fuller and the porters as curtain falls.
