RESTING ON HIS LAURELS
For many years past Miss E. McCarthy’s Gaiety has been well-known to patrons of A. and P. shows, but the show ring will know him no more. Gaiety has earned the rest that comes to all champions and his owner has decided to keep him at home on the farm on show days in the future. Bred in the North, Gaiety has earned many equine distinctions, not in the least of which is that he carried the Prince of Wales, safely, when lie was in New Zealand. The picture shows the veteran with the ribbons, denoting
many championships, cups, trophies of all kinds and prize cards won by the gentlemanly black in show rings all over the Dominion. By reason of his perfect pace and manners Gaiety held a mortgage on any ladies’ hack class in which he was entered, but he won in hundreds of 11 stone classes as well as over the fences. Among the collection are two photos, of the veteran carrying the Prince of Vales, and pictures of the owner and breeder. Mounted is Mr. J. Selby, who was in the saddle on most occasions when Gaiety scored.
