RETURNED SOLDIERS
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE The executive of the Returned Soldiers’ Association met last evening, the president, Mr. Austin S. Carr, presiding. Indignation was expressed at the action of the Hospital Board in not replying to the association’s inquiries as to how the gift of £ls made by the organiser of a Sunday concert held in December last had been expended. The association wrote a letter two months ago asking for a detailed statement as to how the money had oeen spent; they had only got a very vague reply. The arrangements for Anzac Day are well in hand. The service at the Town Hall will be broadcast. The speakers will be Archbishop Averill and the Rev*. D. C. Herron, M.A.; M.C. The secretary said that he had seen the management of the Strand Theatre in connection with a special picture to be shown on Anzac Day. “Every Mother’s Son,” a story of the “Unknown Warrior,” has been selected and the management of the theatre has offered to give a portion of that day’s receipts to swell the Poppy Day fund. T.B. SHELTERS It was reported that the Government had decided to close the tubercular shelters in the Domain. The men were to be moved to the Auckland Infirmary. While the Government’s decision was one arising out of several important questions, its action was regretted by the association.
