THE FRENCH CLUB
OPENING OF WINTER SEASON The Auckland French Club will commence its winter season on May V in the club rooms. Union Buildings. The club will be under the presidency of Professor P. S. Ardern, who is a distinguished French scholar. Mr G. IT. Bassant has been appointed to the secretaryship and under his guidance the club should have a very successful season. The committee decided on the proposal of the President d'Honneur to offer at the end of the year an artistic souvenir to the member who has organised the best evening of the season. A lady has been appointed to act as hostess at each evening to help to receive the guests. A competition is to be inaugurated among the secondary schools dealing with the French language. It is to take the form of a written and oral examination. Each school will be invited to send its three best scholars to compete for the prize. Three prizes will be awarded. The social part of the club’s activities is not to be neglected: three balls are to be given at the Click-Clack Cabaret.
