It was decided to improve the surface on the tennis courts in Kitchener Park, the work to cost £4O. In reply to a letter from the Auckland Rugby Football Union asking for playing areas, it was stated that two "rounds would be prepared for this year's play, and two more would be ready for next year. Consent was given to the Auckland Acclimatisation Society to stock the Like in future with perch, as the trout liberated have not flourished. The council passed a resolution disapproving of Mr. Smith charging higher fares than provided in the deed of delegation, and instructing that the Takapuna Tramway and Ferry Coy. be notified accordingly.—The Takapuna Tram and Ferry Company advised that the Yellow ’buses propose to continue their service to Devonport for pupils attending the Takapuna Grammar School. An account was received from the borough solicitors covering all tramway matters for themselves and counsel engaged. The ampunt was £499 7s Bd. The council approved transfers from the Takapuna Bowling and Tennis Clubs, Incorporated, to the Takapuna Bowling Club, Incorporated, the Takapuna Croquet Club, Incorporated, and the Takapuna Lawn Tennis Club, Incorporated. Cr. Gaudin complained of the excessive speed of the limousines running to and from Devonport, and stated that the inspector reported having caught 16 drivers doing from 32 to 36 miles an hour.—The council instructed the inspector to prosecute all offenders against the speed limit, and to consult the borough solicitor as to the practice of overcrowding. An application was made to grant approval to a subdivision of land on the Lake in Killarney Street. —The mayor said similar requests had been refused as it was not in their power to grant them. During the discussion the mayor mentioned that in his evidence before the Water Commission he had drawn attention to the hardship of owners of land on the watershed of the Lake, and expressed his opinion that compensation should be made by the Government in such cases.—lt was mentioned that a prominent landowner similarly affected proposed to take the matter to the Supreme Court. Cr. Matthews said he had been asked to bring a proposal before the council to create a paddling pool 10ft. by 20ft. and 15in. deep, and a swimming pool 70ft. bv 20ft and 2ft. Din. to 4ft. deep for children on the rocks near Mon Desir Hotel. —It was decided that it be left as a recommendation to the incoming council. The mayor returned thanks to the councillors for the loyal support given to him during his term of office, and expressed a desire to meet them all again after the election. He wished to thank the town clerk and the engineer and their respective staffs for the loyal services rendered by them, and particularly appreciated the help he had received from the town clerk. —The respective councillors replied and also spoke in complimentary terms of the town clerk nnd engineer.
