PERSONAL.-—Mr. T. R. George, of the Northern Company, is at present on holiday leave. Captain M. Pierotte has relieved Captain C. W. Cumming as master of the Tuhoe. Mr. D. H. McCallum, engineer of the Tuhoe, has left the vessel. ISLAND STEAMER TOFUA.— The Union Company have received advice that the Island steamer Tofua arrived at Suva at 7 a.m. yesterday from Apia and leaves at 4 p.m. to-morrow for Auckland, where she is due next Monday. WAIKAWA REPORTED. En route from Bunbury the Union Company’s cargo steamer Waikawa passed Wilson’s Promontory at 9.30 p.m. on Monday last, bound for Auckland, where she is due on Monday next. SYDNEY STEAMERS.—The Union Company advise that the Marama leaves Auckland at 3 p.m. to-morrow for Sydney and the Maunganui sails from Wellington also at 3 p.m. to-mor-row for Sydney. Both vessels are due at the New South Wales port next Tuesday*. NORTHUMBERLAND’S PRO-GRAMME.—-The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the Northumberland commences loading for Home at Auckland on April 20, and leaves on April 26 for Tokomaru Bay, thence Gisborne, Waikokopu, Napier, and Wellington to fill up. She is scheduled to sail finally from Wellington on May 17 for London, via Panama. SOMERSET TO LOAD.—To commence loading for Home the New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the steamer Somerset is due at Auckland next Tuesday from Australia. From ’ here the vessel proceeds to Napier, thence Port Chalmers and Wellington to complete, and sails finally from the last-mentioned port on May 7 for London, via Panama. CROSSKEYS DUE 5 P.M. To discharge Pacific Coast cargo to the agency of Henderson and Macfarlane the American steamer Crosskeys is due .at Auckland at 5 p.m. to-day from Los She leaves here again next Wednesday for Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru and Dunedin.

WEST CARMONA COMING. —CabIe advice received by Messrs. Henderson and Macfarlane states that the American steamer West Carmona left Los Angeles on April 9 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin and Melbourne. She is expected at this port about May 4. MATAROA CLEARS BALBOA.— Advice received by Messrs. L. D. Nathan and Company, the local agents for Shaw, Savill and Albion Company, states that the liner Mataroa, en route from Southampton and London, cleared Balboa last Sunday for Auckland, where she is due on May 2. PASSENGERS FROM HOME. —The following passengers for New Zealand are travelling by the Orient liner Orama, which is due at Sydney from London to-day:—Major Sir Archibald Boyd-Carpenter, M.P., Colonel A. Hacking, D. 5.0., M.C., Dr. and Mrs. J. Thomson, Mr. and Mrs. H. Belshaw and child, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Davies and child, Mr. and Mrs. H. F. J. Padwick, Mrs. Pollard, Mrs. Lyell, Mrs. Craig, Mrs. Garrey, Mr. H. R. E. Black, Mr. A. S. Cunningham, Mr. A. R. Fenn, Mr. B. J. Jackson, Mr. N. L. Wright. MIDDLESEX’S ITINERARY. To complete discharge of her Liverpool cargo the Federal steamer Middlesex arrived at Dunedin this morning from Lyttelton. The vessel will later load at Port Chalmers, thence Timaru, Lyttelton, Pieton, Wanganui, New Plymouth, and Wellington, and is scheduled to clear the latter port on May 17 for London. Avonmouth, Glasgow and Liverpool, via Panama. RETURN OF H.M.S. LABURNUM.— H.M.S. Laburnum, which has been on a cruise round the Southern ports, is expected to return to Auckland this evening. H.M. minesweeper Wakakura was to be commissioned to-day for the first time. She left port early this ntorning to tow targets out into the Gulf, for the Laburnum, which is to engage in full calibre gun practice before coming in. Both vessels will return to port this evening. THE ONLY SHIP.— The William Mitchell, which is now the only fullrigged ship owned in the United Kingdom, 'has left Melbourne for Callao with 39,031 bags of wheat, shipped by the Victorian Wheatgrowers’ Corporation. This ship made a very long passage from Wilmington (North Carolina, U.S.AO to Australia, and when she arrived at Melbourne she was dry- • docked, cleaned and painted. As she is now in fine order she is expected to make a good passage to the South American port, and after discharging her cargo will proceed to another port to load for the United Kingdom. MARGARET W. The auxiliary four-masted schooner Margaret W., formerly the Margot, which arrived at Newcastle on March 23, from Port Louis, Mauritius, is a vessel of 279 tons register. She was built six years ago in Denmark, and will trade between Australia and New Zealand. Captain A. F. Watchlin, who is in charge of the Margaret W., is also the owner. He purchased the vessel in England about six months ago. Captain Watchlin reported an uneventful trip from Port Louis, which was left on February 10. South-east winds were experienced from Mauritius to 40 south, and after running the easting down contrary winds were experienced for 16 days, but after then westerly winds brought the vessel along. While the Margaret W. was at Port Louis a cyclone was experienced, and some damage was done to property ashore and to shipping in port. The Margaret W. will load timber at Newcastle for New Zealand. PORT OF ONEHUNGATO - DAY’S ARRIVAL RARAWA (10.15 a.m.>, 1,077 tons, Bark from New Plymouth. The Rarawa arrived from New Plymouth this morning, and sails at 3.30 p.m. this afternoon on the return trip. The Ngatiawa was to arrive this morning from Hokianga, and is due to sail at 4 p.m. this afternoon for Port Waikato, Raglan and Kawhia. Messrs. Somers and Russell advise that the Orepuki is due at Onehunga from Dargaville about Wednesday next, to load for Nelson and West Coast ports.
