BRISK BOOKINGS
EASTER TRAVELLERS
EXPRESSES WELL FILLED
“Business is better than we ever expected.’*
That is the optimistic note sounded by the Railway Department to-day. A tour round the station platforms this morning proved the truth of the abova remark which was made by severa* of the officials.
Bookings for the Easter holidays an splendid. Even if the rest of the world is not too optimistic about business in general the railway folk will have no cause for complaint.
To-morrow evening three expresses will leave fdr Wellington, two will leave for Rotorua and one will leave for Opua, Bay of Islands.
Most of these trains were booked to capacity last evening and extra cars are being put on all the expresses ir. order to carry the additional passengers.
The morning trains are all being well patronised. This morning’s Limited from Wellington had extra cars and many more passengers than she had been carrying recently. The 10.30 o’clock outward train for Rotorua this morning was well filled and there wen few vacant seats when she steamed out of the station.
The booking clerks are particularly busy, and this morning a queue waited outside the box where seats for Roto rua are reserved. Business at the Main Trunk booking office is mor* than brisk, and “coats off” is the order of the day. The Railway Department is sparing no effort to make the Easter travelling eomfortable, and every emergency is being met as quickly as possible.
