FRUIT GROWERS’ NEEDS

AUCKLAND ASSN. MEETS REMITS FOR CONFERENCE The problems confronting district orchardists were discussed yesterday at an executive meeting of the Auckland Fruitgrowers’ Association, when Mr. S. W. House presided. It was decided that, owing to the unfavourable weathe. conditions experienced this season, it would be impossible to arrange a worthy display for the forthcoming Winter Show. The possibility of developing an export trade in passion fruit came up for discussion following advice from the Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. O J. Hawken, who stated that he would be unable to guarantee exporters a minimum price as was done in the case of apples.—lt was decided to further investigate the possibilities of the proposal and a committee was set up to prosecute inquiries with a view to seeing what could be done with next season’s crop. Several remits to be forwarded to tlie Dominion Conference in Wellington in July were discussed. It was decided to urge the adoption of a universal charge for cases throughout New Zealand. There has been a standard charge for cases in the South Island for several j ears, and it is desired to extend this arrangement to the North Island also. Other remits were: That the whole question of the labelling of cases be reconsidered. That the present regulations dealing with the export of pears be revised.
