THREE WHIPS
BOOKMAKER’S DONATION UNIQUE SITUATION ARISES When the Sydney bookmaker, E. Kelly, decided to give a gold-mounted whip to each of the winning jockeys in the divisions of the Duke of York Handicap at Victoria Park recently, he didn’t realise the trouble that was to arise before those whips were presented. But the stewards and he himself smoothed things out. The race was divided into two events, so that two whips were requisitioned. But the first division resulted in a deadheat between Aurophast, ridden by A. Jones, and Dabble, ridden by R. Hazel. The owners decided to divide, so that which jockey was to be the possessor of the whip formed a puzzle. Kelly then decided to have another made. In the second division W. Simpson, rider of Australia Light, had to survive a protest before he became eligible to own one of the whips, but he will have to wait until the third is made. After the races, Mr. R. E. O'Halloran, M.L.A., made the presentations, and assured Simpson that he would be able to collect his in a few days. FEUDING MEETING ACCEPTANCES POSTED Press Association FEILDING, Monday.
