GOOD DEMAND FOR BUTTER CHEESE VALUES STEADY (From Our Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Monday. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated April 9, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London: — Butter. —For New Zealand, prices are irregular, but the demand is good. Other descriptions sire steady. Official quotations are:—New Zealand—Finest salted: April 9,150 s to 154 s T>er cwt; April 2,152 s to 1665. Unsalted: April 9,162 s to 1645: April 2,160 s to 1645. Other qualities: April 9,140 sto 14Ss. Australian—Salted: April 9,150 s to 154 s per cwt.; April 2,150 s to 1545. Unsalted: April 9. 15Ss to 1625; April 2,156 s to 1625. Other qualities: April 9, 13Ss to 1525. Argentine—Unsalted: April 9,156 s to 158 s per cwt.; April 2,152 sto 1565. Other qualities: April 9,150 sto 1545. Danish —April 9, 182 s to ISS per cwt; April 2, lS2s to lS4s Cheese.—Colonial market is steady with good demand. Official quotations arc:— English—Finest farmers’ (stocks small) : April 9,120 s to 124 s per cwt;April 2,120 s to 1245. Canadian—Finest coloured and white: April 9,92 sto 94s per cwt; April 2,92 sto 945. Other qualities: April 9. S6s to 90s . New Zealand —Coloured: April 9,75 s to 765; exceptional, 77s per cwt; April 2,77 sto 78s. White: April ’9, 75s to 765: April 2,76 sto 7Ss. Other qualities: April 9, 745. Casein. —Present quotations are:— French rennet, £67 to £6B; Finnish, £63 to £65. Tallow. —The market is quiet but steady. Present quotations are:—Mutton: Fine, 37s per cwt; fair to good, 35s 6d to 36s 6d; dark to dull, 33s 6d to 34s 6d Beef: Sweet and or mixed, 37s to 40s; fair to good, 34s 6d to 375; dark to dull; 32s 6d to 33s 6d. Mixed: Fair to good, 34s 6d to 36s 6d; dark to dull, 32s 6d to 33s 6d. Gut, etc., 30s to 32s 9d. Honey.—The market is quiet and there is practically no demand because of bulk. Present quotations are:—New Zealand: White, 75s to Sss per cwt; light amber, 70s to Sss; medium, amber, prime, 60s to 72s 6d; dark, 55s to 60s. Californian: 42s 6d to 52s 6d. Jamaican: 33s to 47s Siberian: 32s to 50s . Chilean: 40s. Canadian. 35s to 50s.

Hemp.—The market is firmer for all hard fibre on account of the somewhat better outlook. Manila prices have advanced. “J” grade April-. Tune shipments sold at £43 10s, but closed a little easier with sellers April-June shipments at £42 10s to £43. The output in Manila from January 1 to March 31 was 295,000 bales, against 322,000 for the same period last year. Stocks in Manila at March 31 were 121,000 bales, against 173,000, and in Great Britain 3,537, against 25,185. The sisal market is firm. Tanganyika and Kenya No. 1, April-June shipments are quoted at £3S 10s, and No. 2 at £37 10s sellers. There is a somewhat better demand for New Zealand, but little is offering. Highpoints April-June shipments are quoted at £35 10s and fair at £34 value. Wool. —Bradford business in tops is

quiet and the demand is not expected to increase until after the holidays.
