RECORD SALE
THROUGH AUCKLAND FIRM OVER £SOOO FOR SEDANS When the Devonport Ferry Company decided to place a fleet of cars on the road, to get over difficulties concerning the bus services to its boats, it put a job up to Mr. Arthur Roycroft, sales manager for Dominion Motors, that had a few worries attached to it. The requirement was 20 seven-seater Hudson sedans—or sufficient to entirely deplete the stocks of this particular vehicle both in New Zealand and Australia. There is a plentiful stock of Hudson cars in the Dominion, but seven-seater sedans are not sold every day, and stocks are kept low. Ten of them were located in the Dominion and were concentrated in Auckland. They came from as far South as Dunedin, and they got to Auckland in a decided hurry. If the original scheme to place 20 on the road is adhered to, the remainder will have to come from Australia. Even at the present stage the deal will rank as the biggest in New Zealaifd sales of motor-cars. The sedans are priced at £595 each, and ten of them are worth £5,950. This is probably liable to a discount for a big deal on cash. The preliminary cheque, I believe, was for £5,000, the balance being left to a further cheque. AVhen drivers were advertised for there were about 150 applicants, of whom 60 or so were found to be experts.
