INCREASE IN WORK The satisfactory extent of service by the St. John Ambulance Brigade is referred to in the annual report of the brigade commissioner, Colonel G. Barclay. In the report the following mention is made of transport work carried out: •'lt is satisfactory to note that during the year under review the work has been carried out as formerly, the number of cases attended to by the brigade being 1,371 again 1,161 for the preceding year. The following figures supplied by the secretaries of the respective centimes of the association, show the extent of the service carried out during 1926: Auckland, 783 cases, 5,496 miles run; Christchurch,—l,lo4 cases. 8,724 miles run; Dunedin, 1,246 cases. 9,010 miles run. If the total carried by the brigade in* the smaller towns is added to these figures, we, have the excellent record of 4,504 cases for the year 1926.”
