PEDIGREE JERSEY CATTLE A TANEATUA SALE Messrs. Dalgety and Company lAd. report holding: a clearing: sale of Mr. W . t. Steven’s pedigree Jersey herd at Taneatua, when the whole offering was sold at very satisfactory figures under very keen competition. Breeders and buyers were in attendance from Tauranga, Te Puke, Gisborne and local districts, and strong bidding was maintained to the very last lot offered, the majority being purchased by local and Opotiki buyers, while two consignments were secured by Te Puke breeders. Prices were as follow: Herd sire, 4year bull Tim Mahone, 2Stgns, purchased by Mr. A. Hawken, Otakiri; yearling bulls, 16gns and 15gns; bull calves, lOgns, 9gns, and Tgns. Cows realised up to 331gns., Rotoma Sybil being purchased at this figure by Mr. J. H. Coppell* of Taneatua, and Rotoma Satin at the same price purchased by Mr. W. Williams, Te Puke. The majority of the cows realised from 23gns to 30gns., while four cows slightlv weak in one quarter brought from 'lOJgns to 21gns. Eighteen-month in calf heifers sold from 16gns to 25£gns, Mr. A. E. Hill, of Taneatua, paying the latter figure for the particularly nice heifer Rotoma Blanche. There was strong competition for the heifer calves these selling at 15gns., 14gns., and 12gns. to lOgns. SHEEP PRICES FIRMER Messrs. Dalgety and Company Ltd. report upon the monthly stock sale held in Opotiki saleyards on Thursday. There was a large yarding of sheep and the cattle pens were filled to their utmost capacity, a feature of the yarding being large numbers of good conditioned steers. Buyers were in attendance from all parts of the Bay of Plenty and competition was brisk. Practically eevrything was sold at satisfactory prices, values of £heep showing a firming tendency as compared with previous sale. Pi'ices ranged: 4 and 6-tooth wethers, 18s 2d; 2-tooth wethers, 16s to 17s; 2tooth cull ewes, to 15s Id; aged ewes, Ss 2d to 12s 6d; cull lambs, 7s Id to 10s Id; fresh conditioned 4-year bullocks, £7 ss; Fresh conditioned 3-year bullocks, £6 3s: others, £4 11s; 2-year steers, £3 3s 6d to £4 10s; fat cows. £3 to £4 6s; store cows, 30s to £2 10s; bulls, £3 10s; weaner pigs, 8s to 10s 6d.
