WINTER HITS CHRISTCHURCH

CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. An exceptionally heavy hail storm sprang a surprise visit on Christchurch at about 9 p.m. on Saturday and continued for five or t en minutes. There were many peculiarities about the storm. It was not general over Christchurch, but seemed to strike a line from the south-west at Sydenham over the heart of the city toward Richmond. In the wake of the storm came a severe frost, 11.3 degrees being registered.
