MEETING OF COUNCIL (From Our Own Correspondent.) TAURANGA, To-day. The Tauranga County Council held a dngthy meeting yesterday. Resolutions respecting Wharawhara Bridge, Kaimal Road, and Oropi Road supplementary loans were put through. The Tahawai Road beyond Katikati is to be metalled immediately. It was decided to classify all the county roads as fourth-class, permitting loads of four tons. The engineer was instructed to give preference to ratepayers for employment. The balance-sheet for the year ending March 31 was presented, and showed two ridings in good financial condition, and three with debit balances. Mr. R. L. Pearless resigned his office, to take effect at the end of the month, and his resignation was accepted. The chairman suggested three schemes for an alteration in carrying on the engineering department, and these will be considered at a special meeting next Tuesday. The sum of £2 was voted to the town night watchman fund, and a like amount to the Mount Life Saving Club towards the erection of a siren. A contract for the metalling of a portion of No. 3 road, Te Puke, was let to A. Paterson at 15s per cubic yard.
