REFEREES’ ASSOCIATION (From Our Oxen Correspondent.) ROTORUA, To-day. At the annual general meeting of the Rotorua Referees’ Association, Judge Holland presided over a good attendance. After submitting the annual report, Dr. Whiteside and Mr. A. Wallace were elected members of the association. Mr. J. W. Webber was nominated as a vice-president of the New Zealand Union Referees’ Association. Mr. A J. Harper was authorised to represent the Rotorua Association at Carterton on April 15 at the annual conference. RUGBY UNION The Rotorua Rugby Union was presided over by Mr. J. Overton Smith. There was a very large attendance, which goes to show the prospects are for a very successful season. The election of officers was as follows Patron, Mr. F. F. Hockley, M.P.; vicepatrons, Dr. Hoy and Mr. W. D. Steel, president, Mr. J. Overton Smith; vicepresidents, Judge Holland and Mr. A. R. Ryder; hon. surgeons, Mrs. Hay and Whiteside; auditor, Mr. J. W. Webber; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. A. Wallace; assistant secretary and treasurer, Mr. E. Wooliams. Opening day was fixed for April 30. The committee was directed to try to secure the services of St. John Ambulance Association at their matches. A presentation was made to Mr. W. Wilcox, head gardener of the Government Gardens, on Friday afternoon at the Tourist Office, on the occasion of his retirement from the service after some 24 years’ work. The district manager, Mr. Hill, made a suitabls speech and presented Mr. Wilcox with a handsome suitcase as a small token of esteem from his fellow-workers and i many friends.
