EARLY SETTLER’S DEATH

HUSBAND FOUGHT IN WARS (Special to THE SIX.) NEW PLYMOUTH. To-day. Another of Taranaki’s oldest citizens, Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Langman. aged S 3 years, died yesterday. She was the last survivor of the settlers who arrived by the ship Blenheim. Her husband served through the Maori Wars, taking part in engagements at Waireka and Mahoetahi, and in all subsequent engagements in which the volunteers were engaged. At Mahoetahi he distinguished himself by bringing in a wounded comrade under fire, though wounded himself. After the Thames goldfields opened Mr. and Mrs. Langman spent two or three years on the fields, but returned to New Plymouth, subsequently taking up a 50-acre soldiers section at Huirangi. which they farmed for many years until they retired to New Plymouth. She is survived by one son and two daughters as well as 29 grandchildren, and 45 great-grandchildren, also by two sisters, Mrs. S. Hill. Auckland, and Mrs. N. Jackson, Sydney.
