NEW RADIO STATION

PROJECT FOR AUCKLAND A SITE ON ANZAC AVENUE It is proposed by a business college in conjunction with an Australian company to erect in Auckland a large radio broadcasting station, to be the most powerful in the Dominion. If Government authority be given, the promoters will probably build the station on a high building in Anzac Avenue. A contract has already been entered into with Amalgamated* Wireless Australasia, Ltd., to supply the necessary equipment for a 1,000 watts broadcasting station. It is estimated that the total cost of erection and equipment will be about £4,000. The aim of the promoters is to maintain a high class broadcasting service on the lines of the “B” class stations in Australia, giving entertainment on six or seven nights a week at no cost whatever to the listeners. The revenue of these stations is derived from the broadcasting of advertisements, about ten minutes a programme being set aside for this purpose. Arrangements will be made with one of the best musical houses in Auckland to assist in the broadcasting of musical programmes, which will include band and orchestra, vocal, eloclude band and orchestral, vocal, eloall the miscellaneous items usually broadcast by a first-class station. It is understood that application for a licence has been made to the Government.
