COMMITTEE REPORTS f NORTHCOTE The number on the roll of the Northcote Junior High School at the end of February was 319, states the annual report, the average attendance being 304. This was a slight improvement on the figures for 1926, which were 293.2 and 269.6 respectively. Pupils of the school were again among the scholarship winners, Miss Hunt and Master Milliner having been successful in gaining junior national scholarship, while out of seven candidates for senior free places five were successful. Further success attended the efforts of the scholars in the choir competitions. The receipts had been £267 12s Id, and the finances wer sound. BELMONT The annual report of the Belmont School Committee shows that the finances are in a good position. Cash in hand amounts to £ls 4s lOd. Nearly £IOO had been raised locally for school improvements, and with the Government subsidy nearly £ -00 would be available. The inspectors report stated that the standard of efficiency of the pupils was very high. There were 582 pupils on the roll, the average for the past quarter being 550. birkdale The report of the Birkdale Committee states that the establishment of a savings bank had been most successful, about 90 per cent, of the pupils becoming depositors. A bazaar organised by the teachers and scholars in aid of Dr. Barnarao’s Homes resulted in the satisfactory sum of £4o being raised. Subscriptions amounting to £4 6s Id had been received toward sports equipment a " d * i o ?*' ball for the boys and a basketball for the girls had been provided.
