WAITING FOR PAY-DAY

A cricket team was going on tour, each man paying him own “exes.” It was decided to “hop off” on the first leg of the journey on a Friday night. The skipper went round to the players who had put their names down for the trip to' notify them of this fact. To his consternation, the team’s •tar bowler declined point blank to “hop off on any blanky Friday night.” “Good heavens,” said the captain, “surely a great, grown man like you isn’t superstitious about travelling on a Friday?” “It’s not that,” replied the speed merchant, “but my pay-day is Saturday.”
