If a clothes wringer or mangle is not available, fix a large hook above each tub. Throw the wet clothes over this, and twist carefully with both hands. By this means the water can be wrung out with little effort. Brooms dipped in boiling water and then plunged into cold water will last well. When darning a jagged* tear, an embroidery hoop for holding the piece to be mended will be found very helpful in avoiding stretching the tear out of shape. * * * When sending Milanese goods to be spoke-stitched, always tack a piece of cotton net over the parts or hems to be spoked. This will save the silk cutting or laddering.
