THE ECLAT DANCE CLUB PREMIERE
The Eclat Dance Club held their first dance for the season in the Victoria Hall, Devonport, on the evening of April 4. The hall had been very artistically decorated for the occasion by the members of the committee, who had also spent a great deal of time in making numbers of amusing favours and other conceits which were distributed to the very large number of dancers who attended the opening night Sharland’s orchestra made merry music throughout the evening, and a very enjoyable time was spent by all present. BEAUTY'RETURNS BY A WOMAN CHEMIST Back to work, but, alas, with damaged beauty. Holiday marks are usually a red or brow, complexion, a rough skin and hands that one is ashamed of. Even shingle hair is apt to be in a state of disorder. Well, renovations must be started at once. If the hair has been neglected and not well washed after bathing, it must have a good shampoo besides being cut and waved. If it is coming out too much, brush the roots well and invest in a hair lotion. Do not think just because your hair is shingled it needs no care, it does. If your scalp is very dry, you need an oily lotion. USE COCO BUTTER A rough skin cannot be converted into a smooth one in a night, but the following treatment is fairly quick. Buy a small quantity of coco butter, and, at bedtime, melt it a little by holding it in the hand, then smear over the face, and leave it on all night. If, however, the hand does not melt it sufficiently, stand it in a jar in a vessel of hot water. Repeat this treatment three or four times. To remove tan colour from the face or hands, a peroxide of hydrogen lotion will be found very effective. It must be prepared by a chemist, for he will know just the strength that is needed. The same lotion will be useful in helping to remove freckles, too. Do not be disappointed if these little foes cling closely. If you have neglected to keep them under in holiday time, by now they have become what is called “fixed or permanent.” No drastic treatment must be used to restore lost looks. It is very unwise to steam the face, if it has been very sunburnt or feels at all tender. Many girls are inclined to be far too lavish with their creams in the hope of soon having a dainty skin. But they only make it so sensitive that it quickly falls a victim to even “working” weather. The less the face is treated during the day the better. An application at bedtime of whatever preparation is to be used is sufficient. If the water is hard, a “softener” can be used when the face is washed, say, just two or three bath crystals. AFTER A COLD Sometimes the nostrils are rough and red, perhaps through a neglected summer cold, or through sun and wind. Well, there is nothing better for this disfigurement than humble cold cream. If plenty is applied and left on, it will act like magic. To retrieve the lost beauty of one’s hands after a holiday entails patience and perseverance. After washing them, they must be carefully dried and dusted over with fine oatmeal. At bedtime, a handcream must be well rubbed in and left on. Loose white cotton gloves should be worn, with the tips of the fingers cut off. They must be very loose at the wrist.
