The “Financial Hews” in a review of Australian loans which will mature this year discusses exhaustively the question of borrowing in Hew York. It mentions that fears are entertained in financial circles in London that it will somehow assist American trade with Australia at the € i xpense of British trade. The writer recommends that every effort should be made to retain the business here, but he admits that as Australia must be a heavy borrower, careful management will be necessary if her wants are to be satisfied at a low cost.—A. and H.Z.
