CROSS-COUNTRY SEASON
AMATEUR ATHLETES BUSY It has been announced by the honorary secretary of the Auckland centre of the Amateur Athletic Association, Mr. G. R. Metcalfe, that the winter sports and cross-country season will open on Saturday, April 30, at the Outer Domain. ■With Savidan in the best of form and many others all of whom are quite capable of upholding reputations in distance running, the crosscountry season in Auckland this year should be very successful. Kells, who has been having a spell lately,*; will be ready for the track again soon. “ Tommy ” Wilson is also expected to be ready for the on-coming season. There are some others who are going to show up this year, and these include Scown, J. Watt and Kirkwood. Scown ran well last year and in the mile at the recent sports held on the Domain gained a place against Savidan. J. Watts, who is a “fresher” at the varsity, is in hard training and looks very fit. He hopes to be in a position to compete in the steeplechase events. Kirkwood is also in the pink of condition, and will be a prominent competitor in the winter meetings.
