COUNTED HIS CHICKENS
With the best intentions and justification Mr. James Carlaw, president of the New Zealand Rugby League Council, overlooked an ancient precept. As told to delegates at the annual meeting of the council, it happened thus: The individual and collective skill of the team, plus prospects of a warm reception in England, indicated that the touring League team would make a profit of £7,000. On this sum Mr. Carlaw counted confidently, and he was already planning the distribution of the proceeds when dissension and disaster descended.
