MOUNT EDEN TRANQUIL?
NOT THIS ELECTION CALL FOR NEW BLOOD The peaceful existence of the Mount Eden Borough Council, which is the subject of an entertaining little sketch elsewhere, gives no promise of lasting —at least from the point of view of the present councillors. The council has offered itself for reelection en bloc, but the prediction that it will be returned unopposed does not seem likely to be borne out. For some little time past there has been a definite movement in the direction of securing new blood on the council, and two welhknown residents of the borough, Messrs H. N. Preston and S. E. Chappell, have been prevailed upon to accept nomination. Both of these gentlemen have been residents of the borough for a great many years. Mr. Preston has been president of the Auckland Master Tailors’ Association for the past five years, and is a. vice-president of the New Zealand Association of Master Tailors. Mr. Chappell, who is a wellknown builder in Mount Eden, has been chairman of the Maungawhau School Committee for some years past.
