BELLE VUE IMPROVEMENTS CONCRETING THIS WEEK The Northcote Borough Council held its fortnightly meeting last night, the mayor, Mr. C. A. Deuxberry, presiding. Two tenders for the improvements in Belle Vue Avenue were received. They were: J. J. Craig, Ltd., IDs 7d; and Messrs. Vv. and HSmale, £1,777. After considerable discussion the acceptance of a tender was deferred until the next meeting. The report of the engineer for the Queen Street improvements (Mr. A. Greville Walker) stated that scoria had been laid and rolled on a good portion of the road and concreting would begin this week. The foreman of works stated that during the past season 2,836 gallons oi tar had been used for footpaths. The waterworks engineer reported tnat 3,344,750 gallons had been used for the month ended March 31, making a total of 29,905,500 gallons for the year. Tne level of Lake Takapuna was four inches lower than last March. . It was agreed to share the cost oi erecting three electric lights a^on ~ Little Shoal Bay. An additional street light was authorised for Gordon Road.
