NO CRIMINAL INTENT
YOUNG MAN ACQUITTED ALLEGED MISREPRESENTATION (From Our Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, To-day. Charged with obtaining two sums of £1 and 10s by false representation, a young man named Wm. Herbert Miller Duncan faced the Hamilton magistrate to-day. Defendant had his hand injured and was entitled to insurance. On the strength of that he borrowed 10s from his landlady, giving an order to draw on the money and authorising her to deduct the amount owing for board. He also borrowed £ 1 from a fellowboarder, Wm. Scott Agnew, in the same way.
Ultimately he drew the insurance, but failed to repay the loans. In cross-examination accused said the order was not presented on due date and when he drew the money he wanted to settle up with the landlady. Both charges were dismissed, the magistrate finding that ther£ was no evidence of criminal intent.
