BOILING TAR

SCALDS TWO WORKMEN (From Our Own Correspondent.) PUTARURU, To-day-A painful accident happened during tar-grouting work on the PutaruruLichfield Road, two men. Joseph McGovern and Tula Kingi, being scalded with hot tar, necessitating their removal to the hospital. Owing to the tar running slowly when emptied from containers into the boiler it is the usual practice to build a fire under three or more containers for heating purposes. While this was being done three large containers exploded, drenching McGovern and Kingi from head to foot with hot tar. In Kingi’s case the trouble was aggravated by' the tar catching fire.
