TRAM EXTENSIONS
THREE-YEAR PROGRAMME WORK FOR MANY MEN The proposed tramway extensions of the City Council will, when commenced, provide employment for 100 men for three years, in addition to the 190 engaged now on construction and maintenance. The new buildings required and twenty new trams will be built in one year. Loan proposals have yet to be completed to cover the works. The pro. gramme, as arrangements are consummated, will be on the folio vug lines: — First Year. —Point Chevalier Extension, as far as Point Chevalier Road, £50,000 Remuera Extension, £24,800; Onehunga Duplication, £2,650; Freeman’s Bay Extension No. 2, £9,600; Gaunt Street Garage Extension No. 2, £5,300; Overhauling Garage, £11,200; Running Garage, £53,500; Twenty New Tramcars, £60,840.
Second Year. —Point Chevalier, Great North Road to Beach, £42,050; Dominion Road Extension, £39,250; Quay Street Loop, £11,700; Twenty New Tramcars, £60,840.
Third Year. —Mt. Eden Road Extension, £44,860; Edendale Extension, £14,700; Railway Station Loop, £8,000; Stanley Street Loop, £2,500; Ten New Tramcars, £30,420. Grand Total, £47,210.
