CHINESE GOES TO LAW an old find ff rom Our Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, To-day. Before Mr. F. M. Levien, S.M., at the IClgisb-ate’s Court, Whangarei, W. v M ddleton, charged with assaulting ? G. Wright in the main street, was Evicted and ordered to pay costs, pi ]6s 3d. The dispute was the oVtcome of a long-standing feud betwien the two. CHINESE FRUITERER ASSAULTED A Chinese fruiterer, with the decidedly unceleetial cognomen Stephen ijermaine, preferred a charge against ljne , Felix Lecca, of assaulting him by .jrijting him on the face, causing his "ose to bleed. Defendant had apparently entered the shop by the window, ,nd Germaine made some pertinent Inquiries as to his presence there, which resulted in Lecca resenting the imputation of possible dishonesty, with the result stated. In answer to the Magistrate, Germaine said he went out to the footfith with defendant because he knew te would get a hiding sometime, and preferred to have it there and then. Even the Magistrate laughed. Lecca was fined 20s. with costs £2 Is 6d. MRS. BUNYAN’S PROGRESS Jean Bunyan was granted a separation order and maintenance against her husband, a foreman at the Ruatangata swamp drainage works. Charges or cruelty and a vile tongue were also grounds for the application. After hearing both sides of the case, vhich on the wife’s part was a decided example of acerbity, the Bench stated that it was evident the pair were leading a cat-and-dog life with faults on both sides. , An order was made for £ 2 ss. per week, the wife to have custody of the children. CLAIM FOR WAGES H. Rountree claimed from J. Edwards, of Hikurangi, £lO 3s. in reject of wages due to him. Although promised £2 per week, plaintiff stated tnat he had only received £lO during the 10 weeks he had worked for defendant Judgment was given plaintiff for £5 and costs £2 7s. MOTOR REGISTRATION R. Quaife, Hikurangi, pleaded guilty to having ridden a motor-cycle without a proper registration plate and without having registered his machine. He wan convicted and fined 40s. and costs. COST OF A SUIT Murdoch John Griffen, of Waipu, Aimed from the firm of Porter’s, Auckland, the sum of £ll 11s, being 'he value of a suit, which had been forwarded to the company and not returned. Judgment was for £7 7s with costs £4 6s.
