NEARLY A RIOT

CHRISTCHURCH ROW UNEMPLOYED FACTIONS POLICE CALLED URGENTLY CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. The police were called urgently this morning to restore order at a row between the rival unemployed factions in the city, which occurred at a meeting held in Victoria Square. Before they arrived, the element led by Mr. H. Dunkley and Mr. J. Luoni made their departure, leaving Mr. E. L. Hills in charge of those who remained. Gesticulating wildly and hurling insults at Mr. Hills, Messrs Dunkley and Luoni made the proceedings very lively for about a quarter of an hour. After their departure, accompanied by about nine others, Mr. Hills restored order and addressed the crowd on the events of the past few days in connection with the unemployment problem in the city.
