JUNIOR SOCCER
MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE GROUNDS SCARCE The second annual meeting of the junior management committee of the Auckland Football Association was held last evening, Mr. F. W. Ritchie presiding over a large attendance of delegates. AN ARDUOUS SEASON The annual report stated that the past season had been a very arduous one for the committee, especially owing to the shortage of grounds. A large number of games had been played in connection with the primary schools and the standard of play was particularly good. The Webster trophy was brought to Auckland for the first time; great credit was due to Mr. Harrison, but for whose untiring efforts the trophy would never have come North. Thanks were due to the YM.C.A. for the assistance it had given to the game. PRIMARY SCHOOLS’ SUCCESS. The chairman said that he regretted after 20 years of active participation in the game he would be unable to take an active part this season, but he would still be in touch with the game as the Y.M.C.A. had nominated him as a delegate. In reviewing the past season the congratulated the junior clLibs on the success attained. The primary schools representatives had won the New Zealand primary schools’ championship, having the distinction of going through without the loss of a single game. A moderate estimate of the number of boys that would be playing the code this season was 2,000. It was proposed to try to inaugurate .a secondary schools’ competition. COMMITTEE ELECTED The following were elected a management committee for the ensuing year:—Clubs: Messrs. G. L. Adams, G. C. Ballantyne, R. M. Beswick, F- G. Fullbrook and C. Walker. Schools: F. C. Davis, C. E. Downes, R. P. Harrison, R. P. Hodge and G. T. Lee. Mr. G- C. Ballantyne, in moving that it be a recommendation to the incoming committee to consider the advisability of conducting two separate grades in the fifth grade competition, said it was a last? year to play off the winners of the A and B grades. The recommendation was carried. OTHER BUSINESS It was decided to recommend the delegates to the Auckland Association to take into consideration the services of Mr. Ritchie to the game when electing life members. Several speakers spoke in appreciation of Mr. Ritchie’s services. A recommendation was passed to the incoming committee that a secondary schools competition should be inaugurated.
