THINGS HEARD IN THE TRAFFIC COURT
SPEEDERS SETTLED Speeder: I was just trying: to pick up a couple of minutes. Mr. F. K. Hunt. S.M.: And the court is trying to pick up a couple of pounds. Woman defendant: I contend I was driving at a reasonable pace. Mr. Hunt: "What chance have you got against two watches? Forty shillings and costs. Chief Traffic Inspector G. R. Hogan: He drove between Newmarket and St. Stephen’s Avenue at 34 miles an hour. Mr. Hunt: Four miles too fast. Forty shillings and costs. * * * Court Clerk: Stanly O. Gilflllan. you are charged with leaving a car unattended. How d'you plead? Defendant: Guilty to the indiscretion ! * * * Chief-Traffic Inspector: This man was driving at 37 miles an hour in Remuera Road. Counsel: How is the speed estimated ? Mr. Hunt: Hogan was following him up, I suppose. Counsel: He is only a young man not getting a big wage. The Magistrate: But he owns a Counsel: Oh, no; it is his father’s car. The Magistrate: Well his father had better pay the £ 3 and costs. *■ * * Traffic Inspector: His vehicles are not in a fit state to carry passengers. - He was fined £2 for a similar offence last week. Mr. Hunt: Then he is fined £4 this week. * * * Precept of the court, delivered by Mr. Hunt: Keep the speed down and the accidents will lessen.
