“STEP LIVELY, GEORGE!”

GAME' WITH TRAFFIC COP EXPENSIVE ENDING IN COURT Games played with traffic inspectors are apt to be expensive. George Buxton, of 42 Owens Road, Epsom, drove up behind Inspector B. E. Hollis on the Prince’s wharf, blew his horn and cried, “Step lively, George!” The inspector obeyed with alacrity. As a result of his little game Buxton was fined £1 and £1 costs at the Police Court to-dya by Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., for dangerous driving. Counsel for defendant, Mr. fi. P. Cahill, explained that Buxton’s action had been absolutely misunderstood by the inspector. As a matter of fact defendant was trying to resume friendly relations with the inspector after some heated words. He had driven up to speak to Hollis and make a friendly overture. Hollis unfortunately took Yimbrage at the action and said, “I will step you lively now!” Buxton had driven a car in many countries and the inspector was never in any danger. Mr- J. R. Gray presented the city council’s side of the question. Inspector Hollis had words with defendant about driving his car and the next thing was that hearing a horn had time to get out of the way. It sounded he turned sharply, and just was a bad case.
