HARBOUR BOARD
YESTERDAY’S MEETING VARIOUS SUBJECTS DISCUSSED The monthly meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board was held yesterday afternoon. The chairman, Mr. H. R. Mackenzie, presided. The town clerk wrote regarding the question of a wall round the proposed recreation area at Hobson Bay stating that the council had adopted the proposal provided the board and the Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board were agreeable to the project being financed from the sum of £6,500 previously earmarked by the Drainage Board for a retaining wall across Hobson Bay. The chairman said that although he was personally in favour of the proposal he thought that the matter should be further investigated. - It was resolved that the application be referred to the board in committee. In response to an application of the Auckland branch of the Plunket Society' for a donation toward reducing the debt on the new Plunket headquiarters it was resolved that a donation of £lO 10s be made. A report from the chairman regarding a discussion with representatives of the Port of Auckland Shipping and Stevedores’ Association and of shipping companies outside the association, held with the object of achieving greater co-ordination between the board’s gatekeepers and the associations' toll clerks in connection with the checking of cargo leaving the wharves, was adopted. “PLASTER OF PARIS?” It is not known whether the member meant what he said or whether it was merely a joke. The members of the Glen Eden Town Board last night were discussing a letter from an Auckland firm dealing with an “excellent preparation for filling in holes in the roads.” A member thought aloud in this strain: “It might be plaster of paris!”
