MAJESTIC

“ONE INCREASING PURPOSE” Calculated to please all tastes, the programme at the Majestic Theatre is one that should find favour with the most fastidious. Variety there is in plenty, but quality has in no way been sacrificed. The popular AllSoloists Orchestra, under the leadership of Mr. Fred G. Mumford, renders “Egmont” (Beethoven) in a most pleasing way, and the music throughout the whole programme is first-class Lovers of dancing are well catered for by the presentation of “The Coppelir: Ballet,” which has Mile. Valeska for the solo part. Mile. Valeska is supported by the Majestic Follies. The feature of the programme is the screen adaptation of A. S. M. Hutchinson’s novel, “One Increasing Purpose,” which stars Edmund Lowe, Lila Lee. May Allison, Holmes Herbert, Huntley Gordon and Jane Novak. The supports include a side-splitting comedy, the Majestic News, Eva’s Review, and

a film novelty, “A Spanish Holiday,” which is a page from the life of a famous bullfighter. Of more than passing interest to local playgoers will be the premiere at the Majestic Theatre of Fox Films’ version of “The Return of Peter Grimm,” Victor Schertzinger’s production, with Alec B. Francis, noted character actor, in the name part. This is the picturised presentation of the stage drama in which David Warfield scored one of the greatest successes of his interesting career. It was written by David Belasco, and as a stage production was first presented at the Belasco Theatre in New York in October, 1911. Janet Gaynor, the brilliant young player who won overnight recognition in Fox Films’ version of “The Jotinstown Flood “ appears in the leading: feminine role, Catherine, ward of Peter. Richard Walling, considered one of the greatest “finds” of the past year in pictures, delineates the role of Peter’s young gardener. Together these two fascinating young players provide the romantic element of the production.
