Y.M.C.A. CONVENTION

A SUCCESSFUL YEAR The seventh National Convention of the New Zealand Y.M.C.A. was held in Wellington on March 23 and 24. About 40 delegates were present representing the majority of the associations. The national committee’s report showed that this branch of the Y.M.C.A. activities were being carried on in able fashion. All the ■Public Works camps had been attended to, and socials had been carried out for the men engaged there. Also the Y.M.C.A. representatives stationed at the military camps had done meritorious work. In the foreign work it was reported that Mr. McMillan’s activities among the natives of Fiji had been very extensive and that he had been most successful in getting into touch with the people. It was with much regret that the Convention accepted his resignation, and they decided to appoint someone else to carry on the good work he had so ably started. The development of the boys’ section had been very encouraging. The growth of the Big Brother movement has proved to be very popular and is now not confined to Auckland, since nearly every association has started this movement or some other similar scheme. The physical activities have proved to be very popular, there being record attendances in all branches. The financial aspect of the association’s activities is sound although no credit balance can be shown.
