The Log Book

Captain A. H. Davey has resumed command of the Maunganui, relieving Captain B. M. Aldwell, who has transferred to command of the Tahiti. Captain E. R. Lowe has taken over the Katoika, relieving Captain Whitlield for instructions. Mr. R. Ainsworth has returned from holidays, and joined the Koranui as second officer, relieving Mr. J. J. Lyons for holidays. Mr. T. H. Davis has signed on the Kekerangu at Hobart as second officer, receiving Mr. R. K.. Parry for holidays. Mr. T. E. Bevan is now chief officer of the Ivanna, relieving Mr. D. W. Williams for holidays. Mr. D. W. Blacklaws has been appointed to the Waihemo as third officer, in place of Mr. F. H. G. Clark, who is taking his annual leave. Mr. W. Cole, late second officer of the Waihora, has relieved Mr. F. E. O’Neill, of the Waihemo, for medical treatment. Captain Dryden, late master of the Waihora, is ashore on sick leave. Mr. N. Wynne Jours and Mr. R. D. Brebner have obtained their masters’ certificates, and are now awaiting instructions. Captain A. R. Cant recommissioned the Hinemoa on Saturday, and has the following officers with him:—Chief, Mr. F. A. Wilson; second, Mr. W. G. White; third, Mr. G. Allan; wireless operator, Mr. L. IT. Hooker; chief engineer, Mr. W. C. F. Richardson; second, Mr. J. McArthur;* third, Mr. A. Redstone; chief steward, Mr. E. W. Curtis. Mr. M. Rudd, assistant manager of the Union Company, and Mrs. Rudd returned to Auckland to-day by the R.M.S. Niagara. SYDNEY STEAMER. —With passengers, mails and cargo the Union Company’s intercolonial passenger steamer Maunganui is due at Auckland at 7 a.m. to-morrow from Sydney. ’ WAIKAWA WITH HARDWOODS.— The Union Company advise that the cargo steamer Waikawa now loading hardwoods at Bunbury is expected to clear there on April 2 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. SAILING DATE ALTERED.— The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the liner Ruapehu, with passengers, mail and cax-go, Is to be despatched from Wellington on April 26 for Southampton and London. She was formerly scheduled to sail from Lyttelton on April 23. HOMEWARD BOUND. —En route from Lyttelton to London, the Shaw, Savill and Albion steamer Mahana is reported to have reached Panama last Friday. She was despatched from Lyttelton on March 3. The Federal Line steamer Cambridge, which sailed from Lyttelton for London on February 28, is also reported to have reached Panama on Friday. REVISED TIME-TABLE. The Northern Company’s revised time-table for the Waiheke service comes into operation to-day. Steamers will leave Auckland for Surfdale, Ostend and Omiha at 9.30 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays; at 6.30 p.m. on Friday; at 1.45 p.m. on Saturday, and 9.45 a.m. on Sunday. On the return journey the steamers will leave Surfdale at 6 p.m. on Sunday; 7 a.m. and 4.30 p.m. on Monday; at 4.30 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, and at 8 a.m. and 4.30 p.m. Saturday. Steamers for Cowes Bay, Orapiu, and Awaroa will leave Auckland at 9.30 a.m. on Wednesday and 1.45 p.m. on Saturday. On the return journey they will leave Cowes Bay at 4.30 p.m. on Sunday and 2.30 p.pi. on Wednesday. The last-mentioned steamer will also call at Surfdale, Ostend and Omiha en route to Auckland.

RUAHiNE’S PROGRAMME. The New Zealand Shipping Company advise that the Ruahine, which arrived at Auckland yesterday from Wellington, will after discharge here, commence loading for Home, and leave on Saturday next for Napier, thence Lyttelton and Wellington to complete. She is scheduled to clear "Wellington finally cm April 23 for Southampton and London, via Panama. I SLIP ARRIVES.—An arrival m port late last evening was the American steamer West Islip from Pacific Coast ports. Pratique was granted this morning and the vessel berthed at King’s Wharf to discharge to the agency of Henderson and Macfarlane. For this voyage the West a loaded at Vancouver, Tascoma, Aberdeen, San Francisco and San Pedro, and cleared the latter port on March 3. Fine weather was experienced until she neared the New Zealand coast, -when she ran into a moderate head swell. Captain A. J. Larson is still m command, and has the following officers with him:—Chief, Mr. f.-N. Troupe; second, Mr. H. Brown: third, Mi% J. Berendsen; wireless operator. Mr. E. Hoffman; chief engineer, Mr. L. A. Gender; second, Mr G. Bowersock; third, Mr. S. Falsom; fourth, Mr. C. Minick; chief steward Mr. C. McFarland. The West Islip leaves to-morrow at 5 p.m. for Hobart Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, thence China and Pacific Coast ports. HINEMOA'S PASSENGERS. The Government steamer Hinemoa, which leaves Auckiand at 5 p.m. to-day for Norfolk Island, is taking the following passengers:—Misses Poland, Genaglity, Champion, Waterhouse, Walllngton, Rowntree, Chappell, Smith Mesdames Champion, Fowler and two children Fairlie, Hobart, Young, Tully and child, Whittaker, Messrs. Niagara arrived in port at 9.35 this morning from Vancouver, -via Honolulu and Suva, and Pratique was granted berthed at LU.4U a.m. at Prince’s Wharf. The Niagara left Vancouver on MarSh 9 and arrived at Honolulu on March l(i She cleared there the same day and auVil on March 25. Suva was lett the same day and the vessel ar rived as above.
