OFFICERS' CLUB
PRESIDENT RE-ELECTED new premises proposed For 24 years the Auckland Officers’ Club has helped to keep alive “the spirit of the service” both among retired Naval and Army officers, and those still serving. At the annual meeting of the club last night, Lieut.-Colonel J. Hardie Neil. D. 5.0., whose photo appears on THE SUN’S back page, was unanimously re-elected president. The three new vice-presidents are
Captain Middleton, D. 5.0., R.X. (rtd.), Lieut.-Colonel R. E. Milligan D. 5.0., and Major T. H. Dawson. C.M.G., 0.8. E. Up-to-date premises, to replace the somewhat unprepossessing ones in which the club is at present housed at the top of Shortland Street, have been a long-felt want. Negotiations for acquiring the freehold of the present site had so far not been successful, the president told the 50 or 60 members present, but it was hoped that the desired result would be eventually forthcoming. It is proposed to rebuild if possible on the present site, part of the new premises being leased to the Defence Department as its permanent headquarters in Auckland.
