Mr. J. W. L. Warren, director of j t he Warren Engineering Company, left by the Ulimaroa yesterday on a visit to Sydney and Melbourne. Sir John Luke, M.P. for Wellington North, left for the South last evening after a short Visit to Aucklandeand the Waikato district. Mr. A. D. S. Duncan, of Wellington, was last evening appointed a life honorary member of the Maungakiekie Golf Club, the honour being enthusiastically conferred in recognition of Mr. Duncan’s fine record in New Zealand golf, and of the amount he has done in the interests of the game. J. F. Montague, of Auckland, for the fourth year, has been appointed Judge of the elocutionary sections at the next West Coast, Greymouth, Competitions, which take place in August-September. Mr. Johnny Robertson, who won the champion of champions cornet contest in Australia and more recently won the champion of champions test at the Wellington Band Contest as a member of the Wanganui Garrison Band, has arrived back in Wanganui to take up his permanent residence there. Mr. J. H. Mitchell, of the Health Department, Wellington, has arrived in Auckland and is staying at the Star Hotel. Mr. M. G. Gillfillen, who has been a guest at the Central Hotel, returned to Hamilton this morning. Mr. W. Reed and his party, of Texas, U.S.A., returned to Auckland from Rotorua last night and have been staying at the Grand Hotel, will leave for the Islands by the Tofua this afternoon. Mr. W. H. Cow'per, New Zealand manager for the Liverpool. London, and Globe Insurance Company, arrived in Auckland from the South by the Limited this morning. Sir George Elliot returned to Auckland this morning by the Limited from Wellilngton. Colonel Charles Knott, New Zealand secretary for the Salvation Army, arrived in Auckland this morning to take part in the op- --emony of the new Edendale hall. Mr. H. Digges Smith, who is in charge of the advertising branch of the Railway Department, Wellington, is visiting Auckland and is staying at the Central Hotel. HOTEL REGISTER Grand. —Mr. R. J.
