Blind Institute Dispute.—A public meeting will be held in the Town Hall, Newmarket, on Thursday, March 31, at 8 p.m.. at which an address on “The Cause of the Present Discontents at the Jubilee Institute for the Blind” will be given by Mr. Morton Aldis, who is a candidate for election to the board of trustees of the institute. Mr. Aldis was for some time secretary to the institute, but resigned that position last year. In his address he will lay before the public his views on questions in dispute. Motor-car Burned.—A fire at the Government experimental farm at Ashburton destroyed a shed containing a motor-car owned by Mr. J. McKay. A large number of sacks of Chaff were also destroyed. Fa rm School.-—Arrangements have been made to deliver lectures at a farmers’ school in Dargaville in May. Officials of the Agricultural Department will also deliver addresses at Whangarei, Ruawai, Maungaturoto, Dargaville and Tangiteroria. Theft of Bicycle.—A qualified accountant named Herbert Edward King was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment at Hamilton for the theft of a bicycle from the Auckland Y.M.C.A.
Onehunga Mayoralty.—There is no foundation for the rumour that Mr. John Park, the well-known ex-Mayor of Onehunga, has decided to contest the mayoral seat this year. Mr. Park is recovering from a somewhat serious illness and his decision concerning the mayoralty is at present quite in the balance.
