A CROCKERY BARRAGE
WIFE SEEKS REFUGE BENEATH MARITAL COUCH For half an hour she sought refuge from her husband’s violence under the bed, declared Mrs. Florence Woods when giving evidence at Liverpool. Her husband, James Woods, marine fireman, of Warren Street, was charged with assaulting her. Complainant declared she found her husband in the house with another woman, and at once went to her mother’s. When she returned he assaulted her, making her nose bleed, and threw plates without hitting her. He then picked up a knife and remarked: “You need finishing.” Witness seized the blade but let go as her hand was bleeding, and crept under the bed. Defendant continued to throw crockery at her, but cooled down, and at length she ventured out. After telling a policeman she went to the Royal Infirmary.
